That space problem? It would eventually be solved, but it took a few years. "We purchased land in 2006 in the city of Tur- lock – my existing location, and it took us two years to build it, because California has a lot of rules and regulations," he says. "We opened our store in 2008 and at that time, the economy took a hit and dealers started closing, banks were pulling flooring." His first few years at the new site were bitter- sweet; Ammari operated without flooring because no lender would give what it believed to be a new company such a thing in those times. The dealership made no new hires and worked strictly from cash flow. Given that many buyers couldn't afford the new units Ammari had on his lot, he headed to Southern California each week to a large Manheim auction and purchased bank-repossessed toy haulers. He'd buy 18 to 20 units at a time until more flooring was secured in 2010. "We looked at our business that time and said, 'We need to have a niche market in the state of California,'" according to Ammari, "so we gave up in 2010 on the motorized market." As his new tactic was to become a volume seller of towables and provide service after the sale, the brothers hired more technicians and service writers as well as more salesmen. They also clearly delineated each other's responsibilities. "Zee is the key to helping make our volume because he's the one specializing in service. He takes all the headaches out of delivering, servicing, picking up from the factories," Ammari says. "My part now involves in purchasing, inven- tory management, accounting, anything relating to sales and the dealership." Best RV focuses exclusively on towable RVs, carrying a large selection of product from Forest River, Keystone and Winnebago as well as California RV makers Eclipse RV and Pacific Coachworks.
