GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: LOCKED CONCEPT 44 ISSUE 98 / 2017 Viper & Methlab come together for one massive party this May! Lock into the sounds of Locked Concept. The relatively new imprint based in Australia was opened by two mates who want to explore the deeper side of drum & bass. March saw them drop their 8th release with label heads Lockjaw teaming up with MachineCode. Together they've fixed up 3 tracks, each delivering a left-field take on industrial drum & bass. Opening is MachineCode with the heads down, no bullshit riddim 'DoubleGate'. Rattling basstones and insanely crisp snares make this one a serious roller. Following are two tracks from both MachineCode & Lockjaw, and this is where they really roll up their sleeves and bring their avent- garde style to the foreground. Cinematic sounds and glitchy bleeps descend to techy rumbles and dark bass tones. Locked Concept are setting huge standards for themselves - and we're pretty sure they'll fulfil them. So look forward to bigger things because this is only the beginning! This May Viper Recordings are back in London for another edition of their Viper:100 party. This time they've teamed up with Methlab, and have full control of Lightbox and Fire. Kicking off the Bank Holiday weekend on Friday 26th, both labels have sorted a solid line up that'll tear both venues apart. Viper Live have locked in some key names from their roaster, with some special guests including TC & the Teddy Killerz. Meanwhile Methlab will be taking things underground with a diverse line up of names who'll be really testing the clubs systems. ALBUM OF THE MONTH: INSIDEINFO InsideInfo's debut album has finally dropped after months of anticipation. He's been a regular on Viper since 2008, where he's become an mainstay of the labels family. After so long with them it was about time he released his album, and though the wait was long InsideInfo hasn't left us disappointed. His self-entitled album encapsulates everything that's right with drum & bass right now. Drafting in elements of rock, hip hop, electro and just about everything inbetween - this is a drum & bass album that's not focused on tearing up the floors. Though we doubt they'll do badly there either. The inclusive approach to the production makes this an album and not just a collection of tracks. There's plenty of bass heavy tracks to rinse it out to, though InsideInfo also has drafting in vocal support from a range of talents who are as diverse as the records on the album. Bleed From Within's Scott Kennedy, Fable, Tasha Baxter, Miss Trouble and Jakes all appear on the project; complementing InsideInfo's astounding productions. If you're looking for punching tech jabs, high energy big room beats or glitchy steppers - InsideInfo's got it all locked down.
