46 ISSUE 98 / 2017 INDIE Beth Ditto, the once boisterous and guttural vocalist that fronted the raw and energetic Garage Rock band Gossip, has finally released a single from her long awaited and promising new solo album, Fake Sugar. Punk outfit Cabbage are back with two live shows in London's Dingwalls in April and Scala in June. The late three pieces whom split in 2016, were influential for their blazing tracks 'Standing In The Way Of Control' and 'Heavy Cross' which were arguably driven by Ditto's vigorous vocals. The singer/songwriter famous for her eccentric and wild approach to life, has proven her ability to strive forward as a solo artist with Ditto's latest single, 'Fire'. Taken from the up and coming album that is set to drop this summer! Known for their politically charged lyrics and punk rock sound, come expecting a live show that has been described as an experience all on its own. Their live shows have received epic reviews for their chaotic presence that is typically blasted on stage, with their politically alternative punk sound made electric. Cabbage will begin their tour by firing up in London at the Dingwalls venue on the 27th April, before gliding back up North to their home town the following evening to perform at the Academy 2. The final show will be held in Belfast Voodoo arena on May 3rd. The lads don't have any more shows lined up until Parklife on June 10th. So be sure to get your tickets now! GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: BETH DITTO'S POST- GOSSIP SINGLE 'FIRE' IS DANGEROUSLY ADDICTIVE EVENT REVIEW: THE CABBAGE LADS ARE BACK WITH A 'POLITICAL TRUTH- TALKING' TOUR ARTIST OF THE MONTH: THE DRUMS The Drums have revived themselves with their first addition since their third album Encyclopaedia, from back in 2014. The Drums have perfected their optimistic surf-rock sound with conflicting bleaker subject matter, and this direction tends to be the back bone to each track they have ever conceived. 'Blood Under My Belt, the first contribution from The Drums soon to be released fourth album Abysmal Thoughts, does little to deviate from this well tread path. For this reason, it is instantly lovable for its ability to be immediately recognisable. Jonny Peirce, the last original member of The Drums, wrote, recorded and played every lyric and instrument to be heard on the 12 track LP. He has succeeded in creating an album that has the sentimental flavour of The Smiths, and the enthusiastic rhythm of The beach Boys. Abysmal Thoughts is due to be dropped June 16th.
