GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: DENNIS BROWN With the arrival of April came the huge announcement for reggae fans that Chronixx will be touring across the UK throughout May, with The Zincfence Redemption Band. Bob Marley himself dubbed this renowned Jamaican reggae singer and producer 'The Crown Prince Of Reggae', and with more than good reason. Brown performed the feat of recording over 80 studio albums, and approximately 200 compilations in a career spanning over 30 years. For many in the Caribbean he is to them what Bob Marley is to the rest of the world. Widely credited for setting up lovers' rock as one of the UK's own indigenous reggae sounds, many of his own classic tracks have since been now covered with good commercial success. Such as 'Revolution' and 'Money in my pocket'. Sadly, passing away after a long battle with drug addiction at the age of 42, his legacy lives on through the homage paid to him by many of the genre's greatest contributors. Forever reppin' the red green and gold, Chronixx, who at the age of 14 was already producing for established artists, made his name on the global reggae scene with tracks such as 'Here Comes Trouble' & 'Smile Jamaica'. He also appeared alongside his well respected and much loved contemporary Protoje, for a SHY FX remix of 'Who Knows'. Having previously sold out Scala, Electric Brixton and wowed the critics with a dazzling performance at Somerset House, Chronixx will be finishing his Chronology tour in London at O2 Brixton Academy on May the 28th. EVENT PREVIEW: CHRONIXX ARTIST OF THE MONTH: GENTLEMAN'S DUB CLUB Made up of nine well-rounded musicians, The Gentleman's Dub Club are back with their latest album Dubtopia. Formed in 2006 in the basement of number 44 Headingley Lane in Leeds, the band skyrocketed to popularity with their hit singles 'High Grade' and 'The Big Smoke' which peaked at number 1 on the iTunes Reggae chart. Now back with their 6th album release, the LP features Lady Chann, Taiwan MC, Parly B and Eva Lazarus. Fans will be pleased by the number of high energy bangers in Dubtopia, and with songs like 'Dancing In The Breeze' and 'Fire In The Hole' new listeners will be left pleasantly surprised. 52 ISSUE 98 / 2017 REGGAE PLAYLIST iNi Kamoze Meets Xterminator: Tramplin' Down Babylon Ini Kamoze African Daughter Samory I Higher Levels Solo Banton Rasta Got Soul Buju Banton Here's the reggae on our playlist this month:
