24 EAST IDAHO HOME & GARDEN 2017 with little fertilizer, it is important to fertil- ize a little less in those months and more at key times such as early summer and fall. Most lawn fertilizer products are approxi- mately 25 percent nitrogen so four pounds of the product would yield one pound of nitrogen, which is the standard amount that typically is applied with each treatment per thousand square feet of turf area. There are many possible variables in product and rates, but remember that slow- release products—which have less chance of burn—are best in the hot times of sum- mer. Always be careful to avoid fertilizer spills since they are concentrated enough to kill the grass. Watering Watering is a very important matter in our dry, desert area. I have a guide—avail- able to everyone at no charge—that discuss- es the important principles and techniques of setting manual or automatic sprinklers for maximum water efficiency. You can send a request for the guide along with how many zones you have in your sprinkler system and any other questions you might have to Kim@GoLawnTech.com. 163909JohBro12h.indd 1 3/2/17 11:40 AM
