GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 5 80 BY KYLE CHARTERS A year ago, Savannah Carson set a very simple goal for her long jump season. She wanted to quit scratching. Because if she didn't stop stepping over the board — the technique on her approach was so inconsistent that she barely ever hit the mark in the same spot, often step- ping over it — then she was never going to reach her potential. So before the 2015-16 indoor season, Carson wrote, "Get on the board, trust my mark as well as increase my runway distance" on a goal sheet, but nothing more.
