INDUSTRY NEWS www.BoatingIndustry.com May 2017 | Boating Industry | 15 The Progressive Strictly Sail Miami show, which was previously held at Miamarina at Bayside at the same time as the Progressive Miami In- ternational Boat Show, will bring nearly 100 sail boats to Miami Marine Stadium's deep water basin. NMMA expects more than 700 boats in water and a sold out land exhibition at the 2018 Miami International Boat Show. "The decision to combine these two iconic events is due in large part to feedback from sail and power exhibitors and attendees, for a single streamlined experience that encompasses all our industry has to offer," said Ben Wold, executive vice president of NMMA and show manager for the Progressive Miami International Boat Show. "We've built the ul- timate boat show venue at Miami Marine Stadium that's ideal for both power and sail so bringing these two shows together will without a doubt deliver even more impressive results for the industry." NMMA plans to create a sail-specific in-water section at Miami Ma- rine Stadium to accommodate the nearly 100 sail boats and catamarans moving from Miamarina at Bayside. To provide a cohesive experience for exhibitors and attendees, sailing accessories, sail travel and charter experiences, and other sail-focused booth displays, will be featured, to the extent possible, in a focused on-land area of the Progressive Miami International Boat Show, show organizers said. "With streamlined marketing that promotes one location and addi- tional time for attendees to spend at the show instead of traveling be- tween the two, having power and sail together in one location will create an even stronger sales and marketing venue for exhibitors," said Thom Dammrich, president of NMMA. "A single power and sail show of this magnitude provides a destination for all types of boating enthusiasts from around the globe and we're excited to be able to bring it to life." Scout Boats expanding South Carolina facility, adding 370 jobs Scout Boats is expanding its existing operations, as the company adds multiple new boat models to its product catalog, bringing $10.9 million of capital investment and creating 370 new jobs. "We've been a long-standing boat builder and employer in South Carolina over the past three decades," said Scout Boats founder and CEO Steve Potts. "From our humble beginnings to now one of the most respected and innovative boat builders in the industry, we are proud of our heritage and excited about our future. We couldn't be where we are today without them or the support of our state. We're excited about our future plans, as well as providing an incredible place to work for our cur- rent and future workforce here in Summerville." Located in Summerville, S.C., the expansion includes a new 120,000-square-foot facility, designed to accommodate the company's new 53-foot LXF luxury center console model. Hiring for the new posi- tions has already begun. "South Carolina's economy continues to grow with great companies like Scout Boats investing in our state and our people," said South Carolian Gov. Henry McMaster. "Our state's manufacturing industry is one of the most important forces driving our economy, and that's because our skilled workforce has proven that it's better than any other in the world."
