just fine, but this WERC race would be the last for the car, which was going to be retired. Team Mazdaspeed finished well ahead of second-place finisher Team HPDRC, but racing at Willow Springs at night presents challenges of its own, said co-driver Ken Saward. "It wasn't bad once it got dark. It's that transition as the sun's going down, going into Turn 2, that gets a little bit hair y," Saward said. "You can't really see the line. It's kind of crazy. I think it's our last race in the enduro for that car, so it's a good way to go out." E3 The E3 class fielded four cars. Team Neth Racing Works was fast enough to get pole, with Team CoolTech Racing just behind by .073 seconds. Team CoolTech driver Ryan Pond drive the full stint and went on to take the win. "At the last hour, my brakes were sparking, so I had to come in check that out, but I was still able to maintain the lead," Pond said. "I think it was just a bad material for the rotor, and I was getting massive sparks like sparklers and so I finished the last hour tr ying not to use the brakes."
