May-Jun 2017 57 meetings & conventions • mcmag-asia.com and commitment to the M&E industry. It is a people business, and we need the right type of people with the right attitude, aptitude and personality. A big part of what we do is in a way like a 'live art performance', requiring us to put on our creative thinking hats, plan and take the necessary steps to make the experience a successful one. Challenges, whether big or small, such as keeping to a budget, rules or licence regulations governing a destination, does not get in the way of a successful event that is well designed and managed. It is a big booster that gives one the zest to always do better. We are the stimulus that enhances the performance of businesses and industries, and at the same time, we enrich lives, be it organising an exhibition, designing and managing an event, creating destination experiences or simply making sure that everything goes seamlessly and smoothly. We are in a business where expertise and timely service are keys to our success and sustainability. Make a wish. Or more. How would you like to transform Singapore's MICE landscape? There is a lot of opportunity to leverage these initiatives to do more business and even enhance our business. We need to keep the momentum going strong. What pearls of wisdom would you like to share with aspiring planners? Embrace service finesse as a key DNA in the business events industry and be professional in providing business service. This is extremely crucial if you are to remain relevant in the industy. It is important to know the difference between being service-oriented and being subservient. What helps further is a warm personality with a great attitude. So, you have been likened to Meryl Streep's character in The Devil Wears Prada. How accurate is it? You will have to ask my staff ! They were all sniggering away when I walked into the office one morning. They told me to watch the movie. I did – and found out who was the wise guy who started it! A big part of what we do is in a way like a 'live art performance', requiring us to put on our creative thinking hats, plan, and take the necessary steps to make the experience a successful one.
