JUNE/JULY 2017 THE WOLVERINE 11 INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS EIGHT ATHLETES EARN NSCA ALL-AMERICA HONORS This year, eight Michigan athletes earned All-America honors from the National Strength and Conditioning As- sociation for their training work throughout the year. The NSCA awards All-Americans for their athletic achievements along with their commitment to strength and conditioning. Seven different Michigan teams were represented by the Wolverine honorees. Seniors Michael Brdar of the baseball team and Sean Lonergan of the basketball squad were named to the list, with Lonergan's honor being the second of his career. Women's basketball senior Siera Thompson, gymnastics junior Lauren Marinez, men's lacrosse seniors Andrew Hatton and Mike Schlosser, women's swimming and diving senior Madison Horton and redshirt junior wrestler Aaron Calderon also garnered NSCA honors. TWO UNDRAFTED WOLVERINES PROJECTED TO MAKE FINAL ROSTERS Pro Football Focus (PFF) highlighted a pair of former Wol- verines as two of the top 10 undrafted free agents most likely to make a final NFL roster. Former Michigan running back De'Veon Smith, now of the Miami Dolphins, checked in on the list at No. 4. PFF noted that Smith has an edge in his pass protecting ability, some- thing the Dolphins lack from their current running backs and makes Smith especially valuable. Cornerback Channing Stribling joined Smith on the list at No. 7 after he signed with the Cleveland Browns, who also selected former Wolverine Jabrill Peppers in the first round. Stribling will be looked to for his coverage ability despite not having great measurable numbers heading into the draft. However, PFF did list Stribling as second in the entire draft class for passes broken up and passer rating against. FOOTBALL NIGHT GAME AGAINST MSU POSSIBLE The Detroit Free Press re - ported on April 24 that a night game between rivals Michi- gan and Michigan State could be possible this season. The report stated that Michigan could have multiple night games on the 2017 schedule, and one candidate for a night slot would be the Oct. 7 home game against the Spartans. A new scheduling deal in the Big Ten gives control of the scheduling to the conference and their television partners.
