Its small-town high school has only made the state bas- ketball tournament twice, both times led by Michigan incoming freshman point guard Eli Brooks, who also helped the squad win its first state tournament game this season. Not surprisingly, Brooks became a hero to the kids in town, setting a school scoring record with 2,426 points — second all time in his con- ference — and improving each year.
