JUNE/JULY 2017 THE WOLVERINE 65   PREP PROFILES When the calendar flipped over to April, Michigan only had two realis- tic quarterback targets in Las Vegas Bishop Gorman four-star dual-threat Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Or- lando (Fla.) Olympia four-star dual- threat Joe Milton. On April 4, head coach Jim Harbaugh extended an- other offer to Chandler (Ariz.) Ham- ilton three-star pro-style passer Tyler Shough. After Thompson-Robinson com- mitted to UCLA in mid-April, Milton pledged to U-M May 7. However, Shough is still in play and could end up in Ann Arbor along with Milton. Shough, the No. 8 player in Arizona according to Rivals.com, was elated after speaking with Harbaugh and picking up a tender from U-M. "It was great," Shough said. "We talked for about 25-30 minutes. At first, he was talking to me and he asked, 'We haven't offered you yet?' I told him no, so he was like, 'Okay, we're going to offer you then.' It was pretty funny. I had been talking to Coach [Pep] Hamilton for a while, so Coach Harbaugh was just joking around. "They all watched my film as a staff and he said that he loved it. He said he loved me as a quarter- back and my work in school, too. We talked about family and just regular stuff, too. It was pretty sweet." Shough scheduled a May 13 visit to Ann Arbor as soon as the offer was in hand and that made his father quite excited. Shough explained the family connection to the Great Lakes State and admits it could be a factor in his final decision. "I actually grew up a huge Michi- gan fan because my dad is from Te- cumseh," Shough explained. "I know quite a bit about them so far, so it's pretty awesome to have that offer. My dad moved out here for the weather, but it gets pretty hot. I'm looking to get out of the heat. It would be nice to have a little change of pace." As a junior, Shough became the first non-senior starting quarterback at Hamilton in eight years and com- pleted 142 of 228 passes (62.3 percent) for 2,079 yards with 27 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also had 57 carries for 102 yards and two scores. — Brandon Brown Highstown (N.J.) The Peddie School four-star wide receiver Ja- han Dotson has openly been high on Michigan for a while and even sported a U-M hat for a photo shoot earlier this year. He explained why the block M lid was one of his choices during the shoot. "I'm very interested in Michigan," he said. "The coaches have been re- ally good to me and they are really recruiting me hard so far through- out the process. I've talked to Coach [Jim] Harbaugh plenty of times and a few grad assistants as well." U-M has done extremely well in the Garden State in recent years, and it could continue with Dotson. It's some- thing he's definitely paid attention to. "I think the Jersey-to-Michigan movement is a big deal," he said. "You see all of these guys from your area going there, and you know how they play and what kind of guys they are. "It's just cool to know that you'd be able to get along with a bunch of guys you are familiar with." Michigan isn't the only school in- volved with the 6-0, 165-pounder, who is listed by Rivals.com as the No. 21 wide receiver and No. 110 overall prospect in the 2018 class. Dotson rattled off some of his other favorite schools and broke down how Michigan ranks as of late April. "Ohio State, North Carolina, USC and Penn State are also in the mix with Michigan," he said. "Before my senior season I'll make a top 10 and then I'll get it down to the five schools that I'll take my official visits to and then once my visits are done I'll make my choice. Michigan is defi- nitely going to make my top 10 and will probably get an official visit." Before moving to New Jersey from Nazareth (Pa.) High, Dotson was named to the 2015 Pennsylvania Football Writers' Class 4A All-State team after recording 65 receptions for 1,174 yards and 16 touchdowns, two special teams scores and four inter- ceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. As a junior at Peddie, Dotson was forced to play quarterback after team- mate Allan Walters was injured. Be- fore Walters went down, Dotson had 23 catches for 503 yards and three touchdowns with 22 rushes for 251 yards and four scores through five games. Unfortunately, Dotson broke his leg while playing QB and missed the final three games of the season. — Brandon Brown Arizona QB With Michigan Ties Looking Hard At The Wolverines U-M Could Go Back To The New Jersey Well For Talented Pass Catcher ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Hamilton H.S.
