WOMEN'S TENNIS (21-5 OVERALL, 11-0 BIG TEN) Michigan was rated No. 10 nationally in the ITA rankings released April 25 … In the April 25 rankings of doubles teams, the tandem of sophomore Kate Fahey and junior Alex Najarian was listed No. 9 nationally … In the April 25 singles ratings, sophomore Brienne Mi- nor was ranked No. 24 and Fahey was ranked No. 25 … Michigan defeated Northwestern 4-2 in its final home match of the season … The Wolverines closed out the regular season with a 4-0 road win over Illinois … At the Big Ten Tournament April 28-30 in Cham- paign, Ill., Michigan posted a 4-0 vic- tory versus Indiana and topped North- western 4-1, but lost 4-0 to No. 4 Ohio State in the championship match … Michigan will host an NCAA Regional May 12-13 and take on Youngstown State in their first match … If the Wol- verines top Youngstown State and then defeats either Kentucky or Dartmouth in the second round, they will com- pete in the NCAA Team Championships May 18-23 in Athens, Ga. … The NCAA Individual Championships will take place May 24-29 in Athens, Ga. MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD At the Jesse Owens Classic April 21-22 in Columbus, Ohio, graduate student Ned Willig won the 1,500-meter race with a time of 3:45.44 … On the final day of the event, junior Brennan Mun- ley took second in the 800-meter race … At the Longhorn Invitational April 28 in Austin, Texas, junior Joe Ellis broke his own school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 69.30 meters … Michigan relay teams took two top-10 finishes at the Penn Relays April 29 in Philadelphia … At the Toledo Invita- tional May 4-5, freshman Desmond Mel- son won the 400-meter race in 49.39 seconds, while classmate Stephen Ha- gen finished first in the 100, running a wind-aided 10.88 seconds (+3.4 m/s) … The Big Ten Outdoor Championships run May 12-14 in State College, Pa. … The NCAA Preliminary Round is slated for May 25-27 in Lexington, Ky., and the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held June 7-9 in Eugene, Ore. WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD Senior Gina Sereno won the 3,000-me- ter race with a time of 9:14.22 at the Penn Relays April 27 in Philadelphia … Junior Claire Borchers took third place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Penn Relays as well … Freshman Court- ney Jacobsen tied her career best of 59.64 meters in the hammer throw and came in fifth place at the Longhorn In- vitational April 28 in Austin, Texas … At the Adidas/Steve Scott Invitational April 29 in Irvine, Calif., senior Jamie Morrissey won the 800-meter race by 0.01 seconds with a career-best time of 2:06.63 … Junior Claire Kieffer-Wright had her season-best performance with a runner-up finish in the high jump … At the May 4 Toledo Invitational, rookie Meagan Malloy finished as the runner- up in the hammer throw, with a toss of 54.74 meters … The following day, fifth-year senior Gina McNamara won the 800-meter race (2:15.93) … The Big Ten Outdoor Championships will be held May 12-14 in State College, Pa. … The NCAA Preliminary Round is slated for May 25-27 in Lexington, Ky., and the NCAA Outdoor Championships are June 8-10 in Eugene, Ore. WATER POLO (28-8 OVERALL, 8-0 CWPA) Michigan was ranked No. 7 nation- ally in the Collegiate Water Polo Asso- ciation Poll May 3 … The Wolverines participated in the CWPA Champion- ship Tournament April 28-30 in Bloom- ington, Ind., entering the competition as the No. 1 seed and winning with a 5-4 decision over No. 9 Princeton … It was the team's seventh championship, joining the conference title squads in 2002, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2016 … The victory gave the squad a 16- game winning streak; they haven't lost since an 11-10 setback against No. 6 UC Irvine March 5 … U-M was well rep- resented on the CWPA All-Conference squad, with senior Allison Skaggs being named the league MVP and freshman Maddy Steere joining her with first- team honors … Steere is the first Michi- gan rookie to make the league's top squad since 2010 and just the seventh ever to do so … Fellow rookie Heidi Ritner, sophomore Kim Johnson and senior Danielle Johnson were listed on the second team, giving the Wolverines at least five all-conference selections for the second straight year … Michigan is the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will face No. 3 USC May 12. ❏ In the April 25 singles ratings, sophomore Brienne Minor was ranked No. 24 nationally.
