The greens superintendent at Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton, Alberta, did not at first have a career in the golf industry as a goal. "I started with a bachelor's of science degree from the University of Alberta," he said. "When I started working on a golf course as a summer job I changed my mind. I didn't go into the field I studied in. I went into golf instead." Peckham, 53, is in his seventh year at Royal Mayfair and 26th year overall as a superintendent, all while never leaving Edmonton. "I worked my way up from grounds crew all the way to superintendent," he said. "I've been superintendent at four courses in the Edmonton area. I worked for single owner, multiple owners, semi-private, now I'm at a private facility." WHY GOLF? "I think it was initially my love of playing the game of golf," Peckham said. "After I realized I didn't have the talent to go anywhere, I got on the golf course as a grounds crew worker. I like being outside. I'm an outdoors type of guy."
