SITE lines | Issue 2 May 18, 2017 11 What advice would you give members who are considering a more active role in leadership? I would enthusiastically encourage any member to run for election on the board. It is a lot of work, bu t chairing a committee and shaping the future of the chapter is extremely rewarding. It's such a great way to meet different people in a variety of positions in the industry and expand your personal and professional horizons. Member Insights Get to know another member of our SITE Canada family. Sandra Eagle will be stepping down after six years on the Board of Directors. She shares some of her insights about SITE Canada and her editor's role. Make sure you get to know her at our next SITE event! How long have you been writing about the business events industry? I actually was writin g for a different magazine at Rogers when I found out that the editor's position was open at Meetings & Incentive Travel . I had wanted to apply about five years earlier, but my children were too little and I wanted to be close to home. I applied and starte d the job two weeks before IncentiveWorks. That was a real eye opener to the industry all at once. I started with Ignite in 2012, and I love working with the great team Richard Elliott and Debbie van der Beek have assembled. You've done many interviews, what is it that you love the most about incentive travel planners? Oh, I love interviewing incentive travel planners, they always have the best stories to tell. Also, I'm always amazed at how connected they all are. I've always loved to hear stories about places I've never been, and to hear fellow members talk about the industry is also very insightful for future article ideas. What have you enjoyed most about being a member of the SITE Canada board? I would have to say getting to know people in the indu stry and working with such a dedicated and experienced group, has made this board position so wonderful for me. The boards I have had the pleasure to work with, and the presidents that have led them, are clearly focused and driven at the same time. Our di rectors take their positions seriously and want to do a great job in each of their committees for the chapter as a whole. I really enjoyed the making the transition to the digital edition of SITElines . It was a steep learning curve for me, but it was a goo d challenge and our members say they really like the format. Quote that motivates you: Well, there are a couple of quotes on my messy bulletin board over my desk, they are maybe not motivational per se, but they speak to me. Th ey are: "All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost." The other is: "Remember Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backward and in high heels."
