S I G N & D I G I T A L G R A P H I C S • June 2017 • 83 A Sign With Sole Shirley Carron of Black Sheep Designs in Arnprior, Ontario, created this sign for The Shoe Lounge. The lower section of the sign was CNC routed from HDU in two pieces, a 1" and a 1.75". The 1.75" was routed at the back to accommodate the ¾" square tube of the mounting arm. Both were Gorilla Glued and fastened together with screws. The shoe was made by gluing several pieces of HDU together to the desired thickness and then hand shaped and hand carved. The bow was made by first starting with a wire mesh, which was cut and shaped, then covered with Magic Sculpt (two-part epoxy resin). The bow pieces were screwed to the shoe body and a Magic Sculpt knot was created to hide the hardware. The shoe was attached to the sign portion by running a threaded rod up into the heel and down through the toe of the shoe and into the sign. Adhesive was also used to attach the shoe to the sign portion.
