Issue 43 / 2012 THE GUESTLIST NETWORK www.guestlist.net 9 7 ASHLEY WALTERS Having found fame as part of So Solid Crew, the Peckham born star has made his way through film, T.V. and even tried his hand at Shakespeare. Getting right back into the music scene with his latest single coming out soon, it's going to be a big end to 2012. Oshi | oshi@guestlist.net I'm here with the most promising newcomer from some of his early stuff, the man who hit the charts from an early age with So Solid, the num- ber one So Solid member, it's the one Ashley Walters. How you doing? I'm good, I'm really really good. So yeah, it's a nice day here, good to be meeting you. How's tricks with you? I'm really good. I'm making music again, I'm enjoying my acting, I'm doing endorsements, I'm produc- ing films. I'm directing. I couldn't ask for anything better. Wow, it sounds like it's not stopping. It's not stopping and it's unstop- pable. That's the spirit man. So, we've got a big single coming soon, 'Your Love', right? 'Your Love' featuring Alesha Dixon. Big track. I mean, that came about just through obvious connections, I've been doing this thing for years and I've known Alesha for years. A lot of people probably wouldn't be able to get her on a feature but she came out for me. I went and worked on a track with a production company called Fairground. Alan Sampson is kind of like the head honcho there, he's been doing a lot of Alesha's solo stuff. So I like me now'. I mean it's been working more overseas than in the UK if I'm really honest at the moment. There's still a lot of steam left in that. I don't think a lot of people are grasping it over here. But in the clubs in Ibiza, Magaluf, the party islands, it's doing its thing. Have you been out there having some fun? got this massive film coming on St George's Day, what's that all about? I'll be raw with you, I've got the tiniest part in that film but that's when you know you're doing something real good. I think I've got two or three scenes but I'm a big fan of Frank Harper, the director and writer and we share the same agent so he just got at me and was like 'Ash, I need you endorsements, I'm producing films. I'm directing. I couldn't ask for anything better. went in with him and they played the track and it was just inevi- table that we were gonna get on it. And there's a lot of momentum build- ing for you because your last track its popping off internationally right? Yeah. I mean, we did 'How you Oh yeah, I've been gigging all over and in the past two weeks I've been to Greece, Magaluf... I've been up and down. And we're up and down the UK as well. And everyone knows you from film and T.V. as well as the music. You've to come and do me a favour'. But you've got a lot of stuff going on this year because we've got Top Boy 2 coming back? Yeah, Top Boy 2. I can't tell you when we're actually going to film it, but it's coming, it's on I'm making music again, I'm enjoying my acting, I'm doing the cards. We're just waiting to start shooting. Hopefully, fingers crossed, we're looking at April next year. I just want to go back a minute because I know you went to Syl- via Young Theatre School when you started. Now, you must have thought from a young age that you were born for this? Yeah, but funnily enough, Sylvia Young started off as just som thing to do on the weekends. My cousin was going and my mum was taking my cousin every week, and I always had to tag along because of my mum. And then she had a lightbulb moment and thought 'if I leave them both here then I can go and do my thing'. Keep you out of trouble? Yeah, keep me out of trouble. And then there were all the old school things like Grange Hill. You must have been the man back at school? (Smiling) Yeah, it definitely For more information check out www.ashleywalters.co.uk worked for my popularity in school. It was nice. Like when I started Grange Hill and I started making my own money and getting my own pay cheque... definitely, I stepped up my game. I went from Dunlops to Jordans in the space of six months. I was the first one in my class with an Erikson mobile phone, you know when they first came out. I'm tell- ing you, I had the green leather case with the green flashing aerial, you know before the call comes in, the aerial starts flash- ing. No-one had heard of them when I had them. So yeah, I set a trend. Your Love, featuring Alesha Dix- on is out 28th October, through SK Records
