SUMMER2017 15 OTHER SPORTS DIS Field Hockey's mission is to prepare athletes to compete at the highest level, while setting personal goals for individual growth. Coaches push athletes to their full potential, introducing new skills and mastering fundamentals of the game. DIS Field Hockey uses the field as an extension of the classroom to build confidence in young athletes and prepare them to be contributing members of the community. The Danvers Indoor Sports Volleyball Academy is where athletes train to develop strong volleyball fundamentals, raise their skill level, and increase court awareness. The academy is great for beginner and experienced volleyball players. DIS Volleyball Academy coaches follow the philosophy used by the USA Olympic Volleyball program and create an atmosphere that encourages learning and fun. The academy offers skills classes, summer clinics, positional training, and private lessons. Camps and classes have a 10:1 player-to- coach ratio. YOUTH PROGRAMMING Children can participate in sports with the DIScover Youth Programs, which include summer camp, after-school classes, homeschool classes, school vacation camps, and more. DIScover camps are extremely popular, providing children the classic summer camp experience without the stress of sunburn and soggy bathing suits. Games like capture the flag, gaga ball, and Frogger are a few favorites that keep up the activity and the fun. With an emphasis on fun and fitness, rather than competition, DIScover programs teach children building blocks for skills in school and beyond. DIS also offers birthday parties. Parents can choose from several packages, or they can build a custom package. Birthday parties can be centered around games of flag football, basketball, floor hockey, dodgeball, or it can be a dance party. A typical party consists of an hour of field time and ½ hour in a party area. The staff will set up, clean up, provide all paper goods, and service the party to ensure smooth operation.
