AACreditUnion.org | | 09 Driver assistance features While cars won't be fully autonomous for a while, some can now drive autonomously on the highway, including the Cadillac CT6 with Super Cruise, designed with safety in mind for long travels and daily commutes. In fact, many new models come equipped with technology to make driving easier and safer. All new cars now have standard rearview cameras, while some car cameras also offer side and aerial views, such as Nissan's Around View Monitor or the Surround-View Monitor from Kia. Plus, the latest blind-spot warning systems give audible and visual warnings and head-up displays project relevant information — mph, speed limits and upcoming traffic signs — into the driver's sight line. Electric cars go mainstream Fully electric cars are becoming more mainstream, thanks to new models like the Chevrolet Bolt that can go 238 miles on a single charge and costs about $30,000 after federal tax credits — less than the average new car. Some believe electric cars are the future, with plenty of car makers — think Audi, Jaguar, Mercedes and Tesla — set to launch new models this year, all loaded with the best tech. Virtual concierge services In addition to the now common features of hands-free calling and playing music from your smartphone, car makers and tech companies are integrating the car with other tools that allow you to get things done while on the road. For example, if you drive a Volkswagen and use DoorBird at home, VW's App Connect system will allow you to see who is ringing your doorbell on the car's center display and even talk with them. Ford owners who use Alexa, Amazon's cloud-based voice service, can now play audiobooks, search and transfer local destinations to navigation, request news, play music and even order items on Amazon.
