Here's a rundown of what's available now: >> TSA PreCheck << WHAT IT IS: Skip the hassle of removing your shoes, laptops, liquids, belts and light jackets when going through security. WHERE IT'S AVAILABLE: 180-plus airports around the country; 30 airlines participate COST: $85 for a fi ve-year membership HOW TO APPLY: Apply online at tsa.gov/ precheck. The second step is an in-person appointment that involves fi ngerprinting and a background check. >> Global Entry << WHAT IT IS: Use an automated kiosk when coming back into the U.S. after traveling abroad. As part of the expedited entry, there's no paperwork or processing lines involved. You'll also automatically get TSA PreCheck. WHERE IT'S AVAILABLE: 59 airports COST: $100 nonrefundable application fee HOW TO APPLY: Visit cbp.gov/travel to apply. If your application is conditionally approved, you'll schedule an in-person appointment at a Global Entry Enrollment Center. Bring your passport and another form of identifi cation to the interview. >> Clear << WHAT IT IS: Instead of having a TSA agent inspect your ID, Clear verifi es your identity through biometrics (a fi ngerprint or eye scan). You'll bypass the line of people waiting to have their IDs checked and head straight to the security screening. WHERE IT'S AVAILABLE: 21 airports in the U.S. COST: Standard membership is $179 a year. Add one family member for $50; kids are free. HOW TO APPLY: Apply online at clearme. com. Then, visit one of the locations with an ID (no appointment necessary) to complete the enrollment process.
