Rosie wants to go through all the locks on the canal pad- dling her own kayak or just hitching a lift and has already made her way through eight of the locks by the July 1 week- end. Two weeks ago at Jones Falls Rosie looked like a cheerleader for Canada's 150 celebrations with an outfit which included multiple prints of Canadian symbols. Rosie's Lock-a-thon is col- lecting pledges via her Canada Helps page Rosie the Clown's Canada 150 Lock-a-Thon to fund Indspire, a foundation which supports Indigenous stu- dents through a Bursaries, Scholarships, and Awards pro- gram. The federal government matches donations to the group up to $2,000,000. "I think it's a really good match for the Canada 150 year," said Rosie. Rosie is going to try to con- vince boaters to let her on their boat while locking through and may be paddling through some locks. The experience promises to be much different than when Elston, without the clown out- fit and Rosie persona, paddled up the canal fresh out of uni- versity. Elston is a Queen's gradu- ate, who by vocation is a pri- vate music teacher as well a clown entertaining for private parties and public events. Last month Rosie's hitch- hike through Jones Falls with a couple in a cruiser headed to Manotick turned into a trip all the way to Chaffey's Lock where she managed to get a ride back to Jones Falls and her clownmobile. "I m learning about the his- tory of Canada," said Rosie who is taking advantage of the opportunity to meet people in an unusual way. She has been posting some of the people's comments on her Facebook page, Rosie the Clown. Rosie's website is www.rosietheclown.ca. Rosie the Clown is going to be 'hitchhiking' along the canal this summer for a Canada 150 project to go lock through all the of the Rideau Canal's locks. She's made her own passport to mark and remember her progress. Clowning along the Rideau
