He parlayed the latter perfor- mance into an invite to the prestigious Nike Opening in Oregon June 30. Gwyn, who was third in the state championships as a heavyweight wrestler in his first year in the sport, manhandles defensive linemen. At 6-2 and 294 pounds, he is projected purely as a center or guard in college. He showed nice athleticism at Nike, laser-timing at 5.28 seconds in the 40 and 5.07 seconds in the shuttle while also registering a 27.9- inch vertical jump. NC State, Duke and South Carolina are Gwyn's top three schools, and he hopes to decide before the summer is over. Rivals. com rates Gwyn as a four-star prospect, the No. 14 player in North Carolina and the No. 15 guard in the country. 6. DAX HOLLIFIELD, LB Shelby High In three seasons, Hollifield has piled up 462 career tackles, includ- ing 204 as a sophomore and 146 a year ago. He posted an eye-popping 52 tack- les for loss in 2016 while leading Shelby to its third- straight 2-A state title. The 6-2, 236-pounder also plays basket- ball. His top schools are Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, North Carolina, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Stanford and Vir- ginia Tech. Rivals.com lists him as the No. 6 player in North Carolina, and the No. 5 inside linebacker and No. 103 overall prospect nationally. 7. K.J. HENRY, DE Clemmons West Forsyth High Henry has rare physical gifts: a 6-5, 234-pounder timing 4.84 seconds in the 40 and 4.38 seconds in the shuttle at the Nike Opening while also notching a 31.2-inch ver- tical leap. He excelled on the hardwood as a junior, averaging 15.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. The key for Henry is translating his physical abilities into dominance in foot- ball and playing with more energy than he sometimes exhibits. Rivals.com rates Henry as a five-star talent, the No. 2 recruit in the state and the No. 15 overall player in the country.
