AUGUST 2017 THE SHOP 41 we had been racing at Hockenheim, the journey was quick as there are no speed limits on the German autobahns and the traffic is fast. Stuttgart is also home to the Mercedes and Porsche museums, both of which are well worth visiting. The entrance to the 540,000-square-foot facility features a huge, seven-story cylin- drical tower. Below is a Harley-Davidson dealership and the Tower 66 Steakhouse and Bar. Across the way is a Porsche facility and, interestingly, some young auto-paparazzi stood on the corner, photographing the supercars that buzzed around like flies. Across the street and facing the old air- field, which is now an impressive show field, are the original buildings, refurbished to house an impressive array of facilities— restaurants, meeting rooms and spaces, retail shops, restoration shops, classic cars dealers and even glass-walled storage units for classics and supercars. The retail tenants include the official representation for Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Bentley, Maserati and Lotus, as well as several classic car dealers and clothing and lifestyle shops. Indeed, a McLaren GT was parked in the hallway alongside 56 double-stacked, climate-controlled car storage units, where well-heeled patrons keep their prized pos- sessions. The structure houses the usual array of Ferraris, Porsches and Mercedes, as well as other supercars of similar ilk. Restaurants and retail shops enhance the automotive displays and make it easy to stay a while. Car collections and demonstrations celebrate all things automotive. GEN II TURBOS GTX SERIES
