ON THE FAST TRACK Bolt-On Performance Parts For UTVs By Dan Sanchez and Candace Wittrock During the first two races of the 2017 SCORE racing season, UTV teams are proving they are some of the fastest vehicles in Baja. Averaging speeds equal to or close to Class 1 and Class 10 vehicles, it’s no wonder these vehicles make up one of the fastest growing classes in SCORE. With a greater supply of racing components and manufacturers adding more horsepower every year, UTVs have not only made their mark in off-road racing but also with enthusiasts. In fact, many of the same aftermarket performance components for these vehicles used in racing, can also be purchased for the average enthusiast vehicle, giving it more agility and speed on a variety of terrain. We gathered together some of the more popular components for UTVs, that range from suspension parts, air intake systems, and more. Some of these components feature a 4-Wheel Parts logo that links directly to the retailer’s UTV section of their website, making it easy to purchase and get more information. In all, there’s a wide variety of performance parts from air-intakes to wheels and complete suspension systems. Since many of these components were actually built from experience in off-road racing, they’ll definitely make your UTV much more exciting to drive. K&N Engineering OE-Replacement Air Intake Systems K&N Engineering offers replacement air intake systems for the Polaris RZR XP Turbo and Polaris RZR 1000 vehicles. The air intake systems replace factory air inlet hoses with reinforced silicone hose that is stronger and less resistant to distortion under heat. The kits also include a mandrel bent intake tube and an oversized Roto-Molded air filter box that adds more air capacity and efficiency with the use of a K&N XD air filter element. The new air-box remains as a sealed unit, keeping dirt, dust, and moisture away from the filter element, but allowing for more cold ambient air to enter into the engine for greater power potential. These kits bolt into the factory location without modifications and are available with K&N’s DryCharger filter cover for extra protection in extreme off-road environments. In testing the system for the 2014-2017 Polaris RZR 1000 (PN63-113) provided 3.3 more horsepower at 60 mph, while the system for the 2016 Polaris RZR XP Turbo provided a 4.09 horsepower increase at 35 mph. The systems have an MSRP of $343.99. www.knfilters.com Cognito Motorsports Suspension For Polaris RZR XP1000 and XPTurbo Cognito offers a long-travel suspension upgrade package for the Polaris RZR XP1000 and XPTurbo. The package is available in a complete set or the individual components can be purchased separately which include front upper and lower control arms, tie rods, sway bar end links, trailing arms, radius rods and a radius rod cage. All of these components are heavy-duty and race proven so the recreational customer or racer can feel confident in their UTV. The package has an MSRP of $4784.00. www.cognitomotorsports.com Cognito Motorsports 4-seat Polaris door kit This door kit for Polaris RZR XP1000 and XPTurbo models fits the factory roll cage or any other aftermarket cage that utilizes the OE doors. The door kits utilize a lightweight steel tubing frame and aluminum skins with Dzus fasteners attached to the frames. All of the original door’s re-use stock latches are re-used and the kit is powder coated in a semi-gloss black finish. The door kits have an MSRP of $1599.00. www.cognitomotorsports.com Spare Tire Carrier Kit The Cognito spare tire carrier kit is designed to fit Polaris RZR XP1000 and XPTurbo models. When adding the optional universal mount, this spare tire carrier system can be mounted to the stock cage and most aftermarket cages. If you are purchasing the Cognito cage, there are already mounting provisions on the cage and no universal mount is required. The kit uses aluminum latches with gas struts to allow access to the cargo area. The kit also includes a Y-ratchet strap and will fit up to a 32-inch diameter tire. The position of the tire in the closed orientation still allows for a view from your rear view mirror. The tire carrier kit has an MSRP of $599.00 while the universal mount has an MSRP of $100.00. www.cognitomotorsports.com Impact Racing 16.5 PRO Series Latch & Link Restraints Impact’s 16.5 SFI-rated two-inch racing belts are required to perform to a higher breaking strength and elongation test, as well as an additional micro-slip test. Featuring QSR adjusters on the shoulders, the 16.5 Pro Series 2x2 restraints offer improved comfort and containment. This product is available in bolt-in or clip-in designs. Recent test data has indicated two-inch lap belts are better for most body types, as three-inch lap belt webbing has the tendency to ‘ride-up’ and fold over the pelvic/hip bone resulting in less overall webbing coverage. Two-inch lap belts fit more optimally into the Iliac Crest, allowing racers to adjust the lap belts nearly two inches tighter. A tighter fit allows for better containment of the pelvis and reduces the incidence of submarining and minimizes impact loads traveling up the chest and neck. A halo of powerful colored LEDs in red, amber, or blue around the perimeter of the aluminum housing can be used as a strobe, running light, or third brake light. The center portion of the RIGID Chase functions as a 715-lumen white light suitable for use as a reverse or area light. There’s also a smaller downward-facing courtesy light for illuminating the cargo area. Though originally developed for UTV and Powersports applications, the Reflect is a great solution for just about any off-road application. The Reflect uses RIGID’s patented LED technology and new side-shooter optics to provide a wide beam of light for cornering and drifting. For even more versatility, there are also built-in amber LEDs on the outside edge of the fixture that can be used as turn signals, flashers, or even auxiliary running lights. Assault Industries Multi-Purpose Clamping Systems Assault Industries offers multi-purpose clamping systems that are available in 1-3/4-inch and 2-inch sizes. The clamping system attaches to the vehicle cage or chassis tubing and can be used to mount a variety of items such as fire extinguishers, compressed air cylinders, drink containers and more. The pull-to-release lever makes removal of mounted items quick and easy. All parts are machined from 6061 T6 billet aluminum and are hard anodized. The adjustable clamps are shrouded in vinyl to protect the surface finish of whatever you mount. The grill features a rally stripe design which runs vertically from top to bottom and offsets to one side. Pro Armor G- Force Suspension Seats Pro Armor’s G-Force Suspension Seats are designed to give a driver or passenger greater comfort and performance. The seat has several advanced features including a pass-through belt slot for easy installation or removal of a harness. The seats also feature multi-density foams to reduce driver fatigue, and K-Tex reinforcement to eliminate holes from rubbing.
