www.BLUEANDGOLD.com AUGUST 2017 41 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP RECRUITING NOTES • Notre Dame's 2018 recruiting class shrunk by one on June 14 when four- star wide receiver Braden Lenzy of Portland (Ore.) Tigard announced he was flipping his commitment to Oregon. According to a source, Lenzy made the decision to switch to the in-state Ducks over worries that his track career would be put on the backburner at Notre Dame. Lenzy — the nation's No. 16 athlete according to Rivals — takes track as seri- ously as football and saw a better overall fit in Eugene. The blow was softened a few hours later when four-star tight end George Takacs of Naples (Fla.) Gulf Coast — No. 10 at his position and No. 234 overall nationally per Rivals — an- nounced his commitment to join the Irish program. • Several top Irish targets are set to announce their decisions before kickoff of their high school football seasons. Coconut Creek (Fla.) North Broward Prep wide receiver Kevin Austin could announce at any time, and Notre Dame ap- pears to be in the driver's seat for Rivals' No. 28 wide receiver and No. 141 overall player in the country. The same can be said for Shayne Simon, a four-star rover from Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep. He is ranked as the No. 9 outside linebacker and No. 138 overall player in the class by Rivals. Simon is likely down to Notre Dame and Michigan, with plans to announce his decision prior to his senior season. Other targets with imminent decisions include Blairstown (N.J.) Blair Acad- emy four-star defensive end Jayson Oweh, who is ranked as the nation's No. 12 defensive and No. 217 overall player by Rivals; Temecula (Calif.) Great Oak four-star linebacker Jack Lamb, who Rivals lists as the nation's No. 4 inside linebacker and No. 97 overall player; and three-star tight end Tommy Tremble of Norcross (Ga.) Wesleyan. • Notre Dame has made its way back into the race to land Atlanta Pace Academy offensive guard Jamaree Salyer. A five-star prospect, the nation's top guard in the 2018 class and the country's No. 11 player per Rivals, Salyer visited Notre Dame in June, and the coaching staff seemed to make quite the impression on him. According to a source, upon returning from the visit, Salyer's mother started reaching out to people in the area to learn more about the Irish. Georgia and Clemson remain the likely top contenders for Salyer, but Notre Dame made a major move. He plans to return to South Bend for an official visit when the Irish host Georgia. — Corey Bodden and David McKinney Jack Lamb, 6-4, 207, Temecula, Calif.
