The trio were raising money, for the second year in a row, for the North Leeds Toy Drive that takes place in December. They raised $458.78 and Madisyn's grandfather Al Baker has offered to be a collection depot for batteries as a fundraiser for the toy drive as well. All vehicle, marine and lawn tractor batteries can be dropped off at Baker's Tire in Forfar and for each battery a donation will be made to the 2017 toy drive. 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage Soho's Self Storage 75 units from 6'x6' to 12'x36' Easy year round access right in Westport 43 Bedford St., Westport 613-273-8848 soho@rideau.net Mirror The Review Parks Canada closed down all but three locks on the Rideau Canal Tuesday after Monday's storm dumped anywhere from 90 to 160 ml of rain across the region. Newboro, the Narrows and Ottawa's locks remained in operation but the section south from Newboro to Kingston Mills was closed Monday. The closure was extend- ed Tuesday to include the northern section between the Narrows and Ottawa. The current elevated water levels and flows pre- sent a danger to boater safety as the water moves through the system for a return of the navigation channel to regular, season- al operations. On Tuesday the Cataraqui Region Conser- vation Authority (CRCA) issued flood warnings for inland lakes after rain across the region raised water levels dangerously high. That amount of rainfall in such a short period of time has less than a one per cent chance of happening in any given year stated the CRCA. On Tuesday in Delta some water was taking its natural course from Upper Beverley Lake down Recreation Drive to the creek. Township crews opened the storm sewer to limit the water from cross- ing 42 on the east side of the bridge. The village had planned to continue spray irriga- tion of the lagoon's efflu- ent during construction of the new large subsurface sewage disposal system (LSSDS) which begins this week. "The ground is already saturated and we are look- ing at all the alternatives," said Westport's Manager of Infrastructure Max Christie who was also looking at rising levels in the lagoons. The plan in June had been to wait until there was 4000 m3 of remaining capacity left in the lagoons and then give the hauling contractor 10 days notice. The 300 cubic meters per day inflow recorded in June along with the amount of spray irrigation which was being complet- ed seemed to bode well for the fortunes of the village before this week's record rain event. Hauling and disposal of the effluent costs around $10 per cubic meter, which at 300 cubic meters per day would cost the municipality around $100,000 for a month's worth of hauling if spray irrigation couldn't take place. There was more than 4000m3 of room left earli- er this week but, as they did earlier this season, the •Continued on page 3 Canal temporarily shut down after deluge of rain On this Weekend Delta Fair See Page 3 Frontenac Frolic See Page 8 Rainfall may see Westport start hauling wastewater Overlooking Lake, Locks & Falls at Jones Falls, Elgin Exceptional Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner 613-359-5500 Reservations Recommended.
