"The deck boat segment has historically been a large segment for MerCruiser and continues to be a focus," Onni says. "The pontoon segment is a smaller opportunity for MerCruiser but still of value for customers who want a cleaner look on the stern of the boat, allowing for a different setup and complete access to the transom. We continue to work with our OEM partners to integrate MerCruiser engines across a variety of boats including pontoons and deck boats." Indeed, sterndrives aren't nearly as common on pontoons as they are on deck boats, but they're out there. It really does make a huge difference on the transom of a pontoon boat when there's no outboard blocking your view. Additionally, having the engine tucked away in a compartment cuts down on the noise and fumes an outboard would normally be spitting out. With a versatile array of engines ranging from 200hp to 430hp, MerCruiser's extensive range of sterndrive, inboard and tow sport engines is the most comprehensive lineup in the industry, all engineered to provide the best possible boating experience. Their engines are built from the ground up exclusively for marine use, a boast that other manufacturers can't match. With decades of history and innovation under their belt, MerCruiser is here to stay.
