JOURNAL NEWS INBRIEF 09/12 selected the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute to conduct a study into whether electronic onboard recorders reduce the risk of fatigue-related crashes. The study will use existing data to compare safety records and crash rates among EOBR-equipped trucks and nonequipped trucks. The study also will look at hours-of- service compliance and associated costs and benefits of the devices. ATRI's comparative analysis of Roll Stability Systems indicated that installation of Roll Stability Control technology may result in fewer rollover and jackknife crashes com- pared to trucks equipped with Electronic Stability Control, while RSC installation costs were significantly lower than ESC installa- tion costs. The study is available at http:// atri-online.org. Continued on page 16 CVSA continued from page 11 ally is improving, more needs to be done by industry and enforcement alike.
