32 FEATURE the Groundsman October 2012 "Thermal Blue smooth stalked meadow grass has been a great asset over the summer. It helped stabilise the surface and with its vigorous rhizomes has given us a good 'base' to build the ryegrass pitch around. My advice to any stadium groundsmen looking to follow a similar path would be, if time allows, to let it to begin the germination process before seeding the ryegrass, because ryegrass is very vigorous once germinated and can swamp any chance of it establishing. We allowed some 21 days before we seeded with ProSelect 1 and we had seen the Thermal Blue chitting, so it had a great head start. I wouldn't recommend using it in a ryegrass seed mixture as I feel it needs its own time to establish and a mix wouldn't allow that to happen. "We've got a long season ahead of us, but with a good team and a strong, healthy sward, we're confident we'll be able to continue producing a good surface week-on-week."
