The Review-Mirror August 3, 2017 – 16 Mac's Convenience Store is hosting another one of the Westport Arts Council's Muskoka Chairs. This chair was painted by the Rideau Lakes Tole Painting group. Cathy Davison at Mac's says she loves this chair and it would be the perfect addition in a garden. She invites you to stop by for a look and she has tickets to sell. The WAC is holding their draw for six chairs on Sat., Aug. 19 at MUSICwestport. The Ministry of Trans- portation's (MTO) latest study of the Hwy. 15 and Cty. Rd. 42 intersection at Crosby will result in a short-term solution on the existing road bed. Proposed improve- ments included new pave- ment markings and adjust- ments to create opposing turning lanes on Hwy. 15. Other changes include maintenance of clear sightlines, installation of chevron Alignment signs and the removal of the channelized right turn lane on Cty. Rd. 42. The improvements can start any time after thea 30-day review period end- ing August 31. The long term solution, which is projected not to be needed until 2045, would be to configure two T-intersections with the east intersection to the north of the present Cty. Rd. 42 intersection. The MTO's latest solu- tion is the last of many dis- appointments with the pro- ject which Rideau Lakes Mayor Ron Holman has encountered since the MTO proposed large scale improvements. "It is very difficult that this ministry would identi- fy a problem and then back off from finding a solution to something they identified as a significant safety issue. In the interim they have been spending thousands of dollars say- ing they aren't going to fix the problem they identi- fied until 2045," said Hol- man who has met multiple Transport ministers in seeking a solution to the problem intersection. The municipality will be providing comments to the study. "It's totally irresponsi- ble that they're not going to fix an unsafe situation for 28 years. It's unfortu- nate the money they have wasted in all these studies couldn't have gone towards fixing the prob- lem rather than wasting taxpayers' money," said Holman. Copies of the study are available at the Portland and Elgin library branch- es, the township office in Chantry and at the MTO on John Counter in Kingston. Money spent on studies could have gone toward fixing intersection: Holman Antique boat show next weekend Westport Harbour will be the site of the 41st annual Manotick Classic Boat Club Show on Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event has been held in Rideau Ferry a few times in recent years, with the 2015 show in Port- land. It was first held in Westport in 1991 and was here five more times up to 2001. Boats come in all shapes and sizes including old wooden canoes, sailboats, runabouts and cruisers.
