Compiled by Jef White 10 THE SHOP SEPTEMBER 2017 T he reason the towing and hauling market is strong is simple—Ameri- cans love their adventures. Whether they are towing a horse trailer, race car or boat, or hauling bikes, camping gear or skis, customers love the versatility towing products provide for their favorite vehicle. The good news for shops is that this category often lends itself to professional knowledge and installation, creating a built-in customer base that's shown itself loyal to businesses that treat them right. It's always a good time to check in on the towing and hauling market to see what's hot, what's new and where the profit poten- tial lies. Here are the thoughts of several industry suppliers: CURT Eau Claire, Wisconsin Travis Machler Director of Marketing Our hottest towing product is … …the CURT 45900 Adjustable Channel Mount. Its best features include… …the 45900 features built-in anti-rattle to promote quiet towing. The product is fully adjustable, allowing for precise trailer leveling. It fits 2- and 2-5/16-inch couplers and accepts up to 14,000 pounds. Additionally, the shank can be flipped for a max rise of up to 5-1/4 inches and drop of 6 inches, and there are two hitch pin holes providing shank lengths of 11 or 12 inches. For a heavy-duty option, CURT offers its 45902 Adjustable Channel Mount, made for hitches with 2-1/2-by-2-1/2-inch receiver tubes and has an impressive 20,000-pound GTW capacity. These products have the adjustability to match what most con- sumers need for their trucks and trailers. The outside factor having the greatest effect on the towing products market is… …the need for heavy-duty towing prod- ucts and the need for 2-1/2-inch shank options.
