2017 / ISSUE 101 25 FESTIVALS Bringing House music royalty along with them, once again descending on North London's leafy suburbs of Trent park on August the 5th 2017. 51st State is known to bring together a array of early House pioneers from both sides of the atlantic and their 2017 edition promises to do just that. With Grammy award wining duo Basement Jaxx headlining the FOUND arena, 51st bring over recent IMS Pioneer award winners, Masters At Work, take care of business over at the Groove Odyssey stage. Chicago house legend Derrick Carter, and the inimitable Dimitri From Paris team up with the Disco icon Evelyn "Champagne" King as they get set to join as the 51st State as it enters it's third year. Organisers have promised a few changes by removing the token system, introducing cashless payments and having more bars spread across the festival. Additional lanes have also now been created for general addmission tickets holders which will hopefully aid in a smoother entry with VIP ticket holders getting there own fast tracked exclusive entrance. The party will continue into the night at the iconic Ministry of Sound as 51st State celebrate the deep and intricate roots of house music across all four rooms. UKG elite Norris The Boss Windross will be heading up the 103, with 'Ruffneck Bass' hitmaker Majestic, and old skool pioneer DJ Ray Hurley spinning garage classics. The full line up has now been announced and 80% of tickets have already sold out promising to cement 51st State as one of London's leading rave revival festivals around. When Farr announced extra stages for its 9th outing, it was a instant 'no brainer' addition to our 2017 festivity calendar. This year was just as beautifully raw and organic as ever, starting off with the layout that has changed from last year's smaller affair, making way for the new main stage The Factory. The raving space looks like it was lifted from a set of a Universal Studios theme park ride. You automatically head towards The Factory as you enter the festival, and along with everyone else walking in, are instantly drawn to Friday night's headliner, Booka Shade, kicking off with classic 'Body Language'. Their live show was impressive, as the German duo commanded the stage and performed through the extensive and monumental catalogue of music they have amalgamated over the last decade. This was easily the highlight of Farr for us, even though Submotion Orchestra and Todd Terje on Saturday came close. Our Saturday Farr was more of an experimental escapade, managing to catch the Detroit native, Omar S, throwing down his signature stripped back beats and bleeps for a more than up for it audience. Keeping true to its own core & values, with its carefully selected line ups and beautifully decorated stages, Farr delivered a cheaper alternative to some of the more expensive one day jaunts that happen over the summer months. 51ST STATE RETURNS WITH A PROMISE WHY FARR FESTIVAL IS AN ABSOLUTE KEEPER
