44 ISSUE 101 / 2017 INDIE Think dream pop, electropop, think of an EP that tells a story, and you have The Love We Shared, debut 6-track EP from Dream Estate. Commencing at the end of August as the summer draws in, End of the Road Festival is bringing a wealth of huge stellar acts to the Larmer Tree Gardens of South Wiltshire. Lead by producer and frontman Will Tse, Dream Estate is a 5 piece ambient pop outfit with strong, and audible, 80s influences. They have certainly made an impression with the staggered release of the first EP, beginning with 'Half the World Away', the most upbeat of the collection. Whereas 'You' is more mellow with an electronic twist to it that deals with the matters of the heart. This theme can be heard throughout the EP, which as a whole tells a story of The Love We Shared. Since premiering their sound at their headline Leeds gig, the group has been busy working on their next EP. The future looks extremely promising for the fivesome. End of the Road Fest will be taking place over a four day period, kicking off at August 31st and ending on September the 3rd. Last year saw the likes of Joanna Newson, and Bat for Lashes. Whereas 2017 seems to have excelled itself, blowing up with the likes of Father John Misty, The Jesus & Mary Chain and most notably Marc Demarco, who has just released his new album This Old Dog this May. This knock-up of 90's alt-rock groups, country, soul and hard rock bands shows signs of the festival really making a name for itself. The headliners will also be joined by other huge artists, such as Bill Callahan, Band of Horses, Lucinda Williams and plenty more! GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: DREAM ESTATE EVENT REVIEW: END OF THE ROAD FESTIVAL KICKS OFF THIS AUGUST! ARTIST OF THE MONTH: DAKOTA All the way across the waters to the land of debauchery comes a Dutch 4 piece that goes by the name of Dakota. Planted in an instantly breezy presence of sleepy riffs and piercing falsetto vocals, this tune could easily be dismissed as passive and uninspiring dream-pop. Yet with its strong lyrical premise, 'Silver Tongue' is an ode to coping with that person in your life who tries to knock your dreams and goals at every opportunity. The track embraces the sentiment of always keeping your head held high and your eyes on the prize, never giving in to the naysayers. This notion is rendered much more powerfully as the track races on, and the soundscape is flooded with choir-like backing that inspires a gust of life into this melting pot track. Constantly cloaked in an ever unwinding haze, Dakota have often been described as excellent 'chill out couch music', and 'Silver Tongue' does not disappoint.
