2017 / ISSUE 101 7 GUESTLIST GOOD EGGS Footage of the incident first appeared on social media and showed a police officer trying to restrain Rashan Charles, on the floor of an off license shop on Kingsland Road, on the 22nd of July at 1.45am. The video highlighted the aggressive manner in which this police officer handled this young black man. Rashan who had a baby girl was said to be a friendly, gentle and caring young man with a very generous nature towards others, he died sometime shortly after the incident. A crowd assembled outside Stoke Newington police station on the 24th of July to pay respect and to show solidarity, some angry and others disheartened. 'Black Lives Matter' was a common theme on protesters placards. Many could be heard shouting, "No justice, no peace, fuck the police." In the meantime the independent Police Complaints Commissioner is said to be looking into the death and the Metropolitan police have since said that Charles was seen "trying to swallow an object." Many other media outlets such as the Independent & Evening Standard have also tried to down play the incident and followed the police line of placing the blame on the victim solely. The police officer in charge took a violent approach and was THE causing contributor to Rashan Charles death. A Stand Up To Racism protest sparked out in east London, after a 20-year-old black father died following a confrontation with police. CAN THE MET POLICE BE TRUSTED SMELLS DODGY Harold has been with the charity for 2 years, but this stint follows a lifetime of charitable work. While serving in the Navy in WWII, he delivered supplies to his community during floods. When his wife had to move into a home he would visit every single day and stay from 11 am until 8 pm. Harold displayed the kind of selfless love which we should all give to others. After his wife sadly passed away he threw himself into charity work, including various projects for Habitat for Humanity, which involves building houses and working in the second-hand shop. Habitat for Humanity empower people in the world's poorest communities to overcome the chronic lack of decent, affordable housing. They help homeowners to physically build houses, and work behind the scenes too, in advocating for policy change to protect owners rights, and helping people finance their homes. Harold has volunteered for the longest time of all those at the charity because he is passionate about bettering the lives of others. He should inspire us all to get involved with charity work. Harold Hager is 100 years old but spends 20 hours a week volunteering for Steuben County's Habitat for Humanity in New York. THE 100 YEAR OLD WE SHOULD ASPIRE TO BE LIKE!
