No. 25 — WR Eddie McDoom The throaty cry of "DOOOOOOOOOOM!" rose inside The Big House on several oc- casions last season, when freshman wide receiver Eddie McDoom broke free on a jet sweep. He's hoping to hear the sound more this season, and for more varied reasons. McDoom carried the football 16 times for 160 yards as a true freshman. He also recorded five catches for 59 yards, but knows he's capable of boosting those latter figures, along with possibly making returns on kicks. McDoom gave the Michigan Stadium crowd a big scare near the end of the spring game, crashing to the turf with an ankle injury. He didn't make the trip to Rome with the team, but by the time Michigan's summer camps rolled around, he moved effort- lessly about, helping demonstrate drills. Teammates acknowledge him as a potential difference-maker for 2017, and Mc- Doom himself insists the gap between him as a freshman and the player he is now is substantial. "I feel like I'm way better than I was last year," he said. "My route running, my strength, my speed, my mindset on the game, I think all of that is way better than last year. "Especially with the game experience and the big-game environment. Last year I could have done better. I could have really been down in the playbook, and really try to dig in and really get it. But this year, now that I see what I can do, what I can improve on, I feel like I'm going to show coaches I can get it done." — John Borton Photo by Per Kjeldsen 30 THE WOLVERINE SEPTEMBER 2017
