He played 74 offensive snaps and another 196 on special teams, but left the team this winter to focus on academics. WR Freddy Canteen: Canteen had shoulder problems and didn't see the field last year. His career seemed to be in limbo, and he finally surfaced as a Notre Dame graduate transfer in the offseason. He'll be eligible to play im- mediately for the Fighting Irish. S/LB Jabrill Peppers: Peppers is off to the NFL after earning unanimous All-America honors, being named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year (plus the league's awards for being the top return specialist and linebacker) and placing fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting last year. He dominated as one of the Wolverines' most versatile defenders in years and left his mark as one of U-M's greats. DL Brady Pallante: No longer in football (a move that happened prior to the start of last season) after let- tering during the 2015 campaign as a reserve lineman who appeared in seven games. ❏ 2014 CLASS OVERVIEW Players In Class: 16 Rivals.com Team Ranking: No. 31 Players Still At Michigan: 12 Name Pos. He's coming off his best game as a Wolverine, three catches for 40 yards in the Orange Bowl. Juwann Bushell-Beatty OL 3 Broke into the two-deep last year and even started a game, and is now in contention to start at tackle. He's played in 11 career games and continues to get in better shape each year. Freddy Canteen WR 4 Started three of the 15 games in which he appeared as a fresh- man and sophomore, but injuries slowed him. He caught six career passes during his time at Michigan and is now a Notre Dame graduate transfer, eligible to play this fall. Mason Cole OL 4 Became the first true freshman in school history to start the season opener on the offensive line and has gone from left tackle to center (last year) and back to left tackle. He's a stalwart and a potential All-American. Michael Ferns LB 4 Redshirted as a freshman, never played at U-M and transferred to West Virginia. Moved to fullback and is now out of football. Noah Furbush LB 3 Has been hindered by injuries the last few years, but he's com- ing off a great spring and will figure into the rotation at outside linebacker. Drake Harris WR/CB 4 Battled injuries throughout his career and now moves to corner- back to provide depth at a position of need. Lawrence Marshall DL 3 Has moved to the interior line from end, but will have a battle on his hands to find playing time among a loaded group of young and talented linemen. Bryan Mone DT 3 Was injured and redshirted his second year, then missed three games last year after suffering another leg injury in the opener against Hawai'i. He's due for a breakout season to get his career back on track after a promising start. Brady Pallante DT 2 Played in seven games before injuries ended his career. Notched two total tackles. Jabrill Peppers LB/DB 5 Moved to linebacker and dominated at several spots last year, becoming a unanimous All-American and Heisman finalist before being the first Wolverine to come off the board in the 2017 NFL Draft, selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 25th pick of the first round. Wilton Speight QB 3 The surprise starter at quarterback last year and the favorite to win the job again this season. Earned third-team All-Big Ten honors a season ago after throwing for 2,538 yards with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions last year. Jared Wangler LB 3 Is vying for snaps as a backup this year, having played in only handful of games in his career. Has three career tackles, all against Rutgers last year. Brandon Watson CB 3 Has appeared in 25 games at cornerback and special teams, and notched 20 tackles. Will vie for more playing time in a revamped secondary this season. Maurice Ways WR 3 Has only five career catches, but he's a big receiver with potential. He'll have to battle for playing time with some talented freshmen. Chase Winovich DE 4 A linebacker turned tight end turned defensive end that has come into his own at his latest position. He started twice last season and should become a full-time starter this year. The redshirt junior has notched 37 tackles to date, including 9.5 for loss and five sacks.
