SEPTEMBER 2017 THE WOLVERINE 49 BY AUSTIN FOX T his year's version of Big Ten media days was the third for Jim Harbaugh during his tenure at Michigan, and once again he was the main attraction. He had, by far, the biggest crowd around his table of any Big Ten coach at the event, with members of the media hoping to hear one of his famous lines or random eruptions. He granted their wishes at one point while talking about redshirt freshman quarterback Brandon Peters. "He elevated his game in the spring," Harbaugh said of Peters. "I've always noticed a really good natural ability, arm talent — he's a natural thrower of the football. He elevated his game at a competitive level, but has a personality that's very quiet. "The one thing he needs to do as a quarterback is just take charge. Be loud. That doesn't come as naturally. It's really easy — 'HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! BLUE 80! BLUE 80!' That's the easiest thing about being a quarterback, to me. Just be louder, Brandon. Please." Harbaugh's brief outburst is a per- fect example of why both the local and national media simply can't get enough of him, and why he is always the main attraction anywhere he goes. Despite his quirkiness, Harbaugh is still respected immensely by players and coaches around the conference. This was especially evident when conference opponents were asked anonymously what their honest opin- ions of him were, and nobody had anything bad to say. In fact, some opposing players said very positive things. Several used the words "interesting" and "different" to describe him, but most agreed that he would be an awesome coach to play for. This sentiment was echoed by the three players in attendance that do happen to play for him — fifth-year senior linebacker Mike McCray, fifth- year senior defensive tackle Maurice Hurst Jr. and senior offensive line- man Mason Cole. All three players talked about how much they enjoy playing for Harbaugh, and how much fun they're having during their time at Michigan.
