74 THE WOLVERINE SEPTEMBER 2017 5. DARIA PYSHNENKO LAKE FOREST, ILL. SWIMMING AND DIVING The only sprinter in U-M's 2017 class, Pyshnenko is the No. 16 recruit in the country according to Colleg- eSwimming.com. Her personal best time in the 100-yard freestyle of 48.75 would have been the third-fastest at the 2017 Big Ten Championships. She also has a personal best time of 22.38 in the 50-yard freestyle, which would have placed sixth at the Big Ten Championships last winter. She was the Illinois state champion in both the 50- and 100-yard free- style in 2015, and chose to swim for her club — Cats Aquatic Team — rather than for her high school dur- ing the 2016 season. Her club team is coached by her father, Vladimir Pyshnenko, who won four Olympic medals while swimming for Russia. 6. HILLARY BEALL LAGUNA BEACH, CALIF. • SOCCER The No. 1 goalkeeper in the coun- try according to TopDrawerSoccer. com, Beall has participated with the U.S. National Team since 2014 and played in goal for the U-17 U.S. Women's National Team in the 2016 U-17 World Cup. As a senior with her club team, she earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America Youth Girls All-America honors. Beall will join a roster that sports two experienced goalkeepers in seniors Megan Hinz and Sarah Jackson. "The way we're going to look at it is 'This thing is wide open,'" head coach Greg Ryan said. "The best per- former will be between the pipes when we play our first game." 7. ASHLEY KIM REDONDO BEACH, CALIF. • GOLF Kim is rated No. 11 in California and No. 39 in the senior class by Na- tional Junior Golf Scoreboard. Dur- ing her 2016 season, she competed in the USGA's Women's Amateur and Four Ball Championship and won the Southern California PGA Toyota Tour Cup College Showcase. "She's been committed to Michi- gan for quite some time," head coach Jan Dowling said. "We've had some time to get to know her pretty well over the last year and a half. "We know her family pretty well because her older sister Megan is on our team already … Ashley has played a ton of competitive golf and she's competed at the highest level, even at a pretty young age, 16, 17 years old. She's got this ability to go low which I think is going to come in handy." Kim is one of two incoming fresh- men for the women's golf team. 8. HAILEY BROWN HAMILTON, ONTARIO • BASKETBALL Brown will join Michigan after helping lead Team Canada to a third- place finish at the FIBA U-19 World Cup in July 2017. During the com- petition, Brown averaged 10.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. The 6-1 forward is a five-star recruit and the No. 46 prospect in the class according to ESPNW's HoopGurlz. "Hailey is so versatile on the basketball court," head coach Kim Barnes Arico said. "She is a post player who can face up, can knock down shots to extend the defense and can go off the bounce. "I really think that it is her overall basketball IQ and toughness that are going to help us." Brown will join a Michigan team that could use help after losing senior Siera Thompson and freshman Kysre Gondrezick, key members of last year's WNIT championship team. 9. CAMILLE DAVRE MILWAUKEE • TRACK AND FIELD As a middle distance runner, Davre will participate in the indoor and outdoor track seasons as well as cross country. She is a 10-time state cham- pion, winning both the 800 and 1,600 meters four straight years, adding a title in the 3,200 meters in 2017 and participating on the first-place 4x800 relay in 2015. Her 2:09.22 in the 800 in 2015 still stands as a Wisconsin state record, and her winning time of 4:56.76 in the 1,600 at this year 's state meet was the eighth best in the nation by a prep senior. She also took first at the New Bal- ance Indoor Nationals meet in the 800 in 2016, with a time of 2:09.23, and Five-star talent Hailey Brown, a 6-1 forward, averaged 10.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while helping Team Canada to a third-place finish at the FIBA U-19 World Cup in July.
