78 ■ THE WOLFPACKER ■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING LINEBACKER CALVIN HART JR. Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage High Hart has offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syra- cuse and Wisconsin, among others, but he appears to have his focus on NC State and Texas A&M. He visited both over the summer and could make a decision before the end of August. The 6-2, 200-pounder had 70 tackles, seven stops for loss and four sacks as a ju- nior, and Rivals.com rates him as a three- star prospect. DEFENSIVE LINEMAN ALIM MCNEILL Raleigh Sanderson High McNeill has a top six of Duke, Florida State, NC State, North Caro- lina, Penn State and Virginia Tech, but the Wolfpack has emerged as a clear favorite. "Those are all under con- sideration, but as far as a frontrunner, NC State is my top school," McNeill confirmed in an inter- view with The Wolfpacker July 21. As a junior, the 6-3, 270-pounder piled up 84 stops, 18 tackles for loss and six sacks. He also picked off a pass that he returned 22 yards for a touchdown, forced two fum- bles and recovered a pair of fumbles, one of which he returned for a score. He played primarily linebacker for Sanderson, but proj- ects as a defensive tackle in college. Rivals.com ranks him as a three-star re- cruit, the No. 18 player in the state and the No. 28 defensive tackle in the country. He has set an announcement date for Sept. 9, which is also the day of the Pack's home opener against Marshall. DEFENSIVE END JASON MERCIER Delray Beach (Fla.) Atlantic High In late July, the 6-5, 235-pounder revealed a top six of Colorado State, Maryland, NC State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Rutgers. Rivals.com rates Mercier as a three-star pros- pect. Most of Mercier's visits have been to Florida-based schools, but he told NJ.com that among the programs on his top six Pitt and Rutgers have been recruiting him the hardest. DEFENSIVE END LANCE TURAY Irvington (N.J.) High Rivals.com lists the 6-5, 230-pounder as a three-star talent and the No. 33 prospect in New Jersey. Minnesota, NC State, Rutgers and Syr- acuse are the four schools recruiting Turay the hardest, but NCSU and Rutgers are likely the top two from that group. His older brother, Kemoko Turay, is a fifth-year senior defensive end at Rutgers, and his good friend and teammate, wide receiver Jasiah Provillon, is verbally com- mitted to NC State. ATHLETE JOE WILKINS JR. North Fort Myers (Fla.) High The three-star prospect could play either wide receiver or cornerback in college. As a junior, Wilkins (6-2, 180 pounds) caught 16 passes for 238 yards and two scores, plus made 28 tackles and three interceptions in six games. On the recruiting trail, Wilkins has said that three schools that are likely to receive official visits are Kentucky, NC State and Notre Dame, all of which have offered him scholarships. DEFENSIVE BACK KENDALL WILLIAMSON Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood High Williamson (6-1, 190 pounds) has made a pair of unofficial visits to NC State, coming for the opening of spring practices and then returning in July. The Pack was among four schools most frequently mentioned with Williamson along with Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. However, that was prior to an offer from Stanford in July that appeared to have slowed down his recruitment. Rivals.com rates Williamson as a three- star prospect, the No. 79 player in Georgia and the No. 60 cornerback in the country. ■ DAILY TEAM COVERAGE EXPERT ANALYSIS RECRUITING SCOOP PROSPECT VIDEOS EXPERT MESSAGE BOARDS Go behind the scenes with exclusive coverage on the Wolfpack throughout the season.
