10 ■ THE WOLFPACKER It doesn't seem like much time has passed since we got off the plane after winning the Independence Bowl, and here we are about to kick off the new season. The offseason was one of the most productive I've ever witnessed as a coach. Our players set high individual goals and have worked hard to attain them. It's very rewarding to see the prog- ress they have made. Our goal during fall camp has been to win the day. We removed all of the season schedules in the Murphy Center and put the word "today" up. We want to go out every day and work as hard as we can to win that day without looking ahead. The guys really bought into that attitude and as a result, we've gotten a great deal done in fall camp. One reason for that production is that our team is very experienced and senior laden. With 11 senior starters returning, we have the luxury of players at many positions that know how to practice. The leadership of our seniors has been phe- nomenal, and it's been a joy to see them take ownership of this team. Many of our seniors and a couple of juniors have been named to preseason watch lists to national awards, which has added to the buzz surrounding the program. I'm very proud of these young men and can't wait to see how they per- form with such high expectations: Player Award Tony Adams, OG Outland Trophy (Best Lineman) Bradley Chubb, DE Bednarik Award (Best Defensive Player) Nagurski Trophy (Best Defensive Player) Athlon Preseason All-American (2nd) ACSMA Preseason All-ACC A.J. Cole, P Ray Guy Award (Best Punter) Allstate AFCA Goodworks Team Wuerffel Trophy (Best Community Service) ACSMA Preseason All-ACC Cole Cook, TE Mackey Award (Best Tight End) Ryan Finley, QB Unitas Golden Arm Trophy (Best Quarterback) B.J. Hill, DT Nagurski Trophy Outland Trophy Airius Moore, LB Butkus Award (Best Linebacker) Jaylen Samuels, H Hornung Award (Most Versatile Player) Maxwell Award (Best Player) Athlon Preseason All-American (1st) ACSMA Preseason All-ACC Not only are these eight young men great players, but they are great lead- ers. At the end of fall camp, the team elected their captains for the upcoming season and this year's Leadership Coun- cil. I'm proud to say that each one of those players on the national watch lists was also recognized by their teammates as leaders. Seniors Tony Adams, Bradley Chubb, Cole Cook and Airius Moore will serve as team captains this season, while our new Leadership Council is listed below. Cornerback: Nicholas Lacy Nick McCloud Safety: Shawn Boone Dexter Wright Linebacker: Jerod Fernandez Airius Moore Defensive End: Bradley Chubb Kentavius Street Defensive Tackle: Eurndraus Bryant BJ Hill Justin Jones Running Back: Brady Bodine Reggie Gallaspy Tight End/Fullback: Cole Cook Jaylen Samuels Wide Receiver: Kelvin Harmon Stephen Louis JuMichael Ramos Quarterback: Ryan Finley Jalan McClendon Specialist: Kyle Bambard AJ Cole Offensive Line: Tony Adams Garrett Bradbury Freshmen: Linebacker Louis Acceus Receiver Emeka Emezie Defensive tackle Grant Gibson Quarterback Matt McKay We're very excited about opening the season in Charlotte on national televi- sion and hope that the stadium is filled with Wolfpack red. We have 19 players from within 45 minutes of downtown Charlotte, and it will be great for them to be able to open the season in their hometown. My vision for this program has not waivered since the day I took the job — 1Pack1Goal: A United Mission to Win a Championship. As long as we stay focused on our goal and we win each and every day, I believe we will be back in Charlotte for one more game this season. 1Pack1Goal, Coach Doeren ■ From Head Football Coach Dave Doeren PHOTO COURTESY NC STATE ATHLETICS
