From noon to 6:30 eight bands featuring musical genres from bluegrass, country, folk and rock and roll will perform at Soho's on Bedford Street and on the lawn behind The Cove. The Little Rideau Farm Stage at Soho's has music and market vendors from noon until 6 p.m. starting with the The Kingston Ceili Band and their brand of East Coast folk from noon to 1 p.m. Next up is Brea Lawrenson Band from Carleton Place featuring Westports' Shawn McCul- lough and Perth's Wade Foster from 1:30 to 2:40 p.m. The Barrel Boys from Toronto, a 5-piece tradi- tional bluegrass string band, perform from 3 to 4:10 p.m. The final band at the Little Rideau Farm stage at Soho's is Miss Emily along with the Tragically Hip's Rob Baker and Gord Sinclair from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Miss Emily's most recent record 'Rise' fea- By Margaret Brand The Review-Mirror Last weekend's Man- otick Classic Boat Club's annual boat show had more on display than the club member's classic boats. It showed off West- port hospitality. Thirty-one boats made their way to the Westport harbour for the Saturday show which took place on the floating docks on the south side of the harbour. Show organizer Chris Lucas, an Upper Rideau Lake cottager was pleased with how the show was embraced by the village, and noted it was one of the club's larger shows with a steady flow of people through the day. "Everyone was very helpful. We had lots of support from the village," said Lucas who had partic- ular praise for harbour- master Kevin Kardash and Mayor Robin Jones in accommodating the needs of the club. Participants were sup- plied with a welcome package which included a Westport harbour burgee flag. Visitors to the show were treated to a wide variety of antique and classic boats from motor- ized skiffs, cool runabouts to cruisers. One of the more unique boats was the Navy League's 'Pogo' a 36 foot aluminum sound- ing craft which accompa- nied the HMCS Labrador to the Arctic on four mis- sions to chart the waters. Many boats from the Rideau Lakes including those from local boat builders were on display including the Portland built Dowsett skiff which Lucas drove from his fam- ily cottage on the Upper Rideau. New this year to the annual show was the Hagerty Marine Insurance Junior Judging program. Eleven children from Westport participated and judged six boats equipped with promotional t-shirts and score pads. Events and locations include a century farm, a boat works, the Rideau Canal, a 19th century cemetery, education, gar- dening, milling, scenic vistas, a resort and an early church. At most sites there will be hosts to provide some interpretation, demonstra- tion or an added experi- ence to the visit.
