The grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Frances Warner, of Phlllipsville, Ontario was awarded the Gover- nor Generals Academic Achievement Gold Medal, 2016- 2017 upon completion of his Master's Thesis at the Uni- versity of British Columbia. Matthew is the son of Gordin Warner and Hannah Roots daughter of June Roots and the late Dr. Fred Roots, OC. Gold medals are awarded to the graduating students with the most outstanding academic records in a doctoral degree and in a Master's degree with thesis. Previously Matthew completed his undergraduate degree at Harvard and is presently working on his Doc- toral degree at Stanford in California. For more than 140 years, the Governor General's Academic Medals have recognized the outstanding scholastic achievements of students in Canada.
