"Coaches tell us all the time, 'Don't mess up, but if you do, they'll make you right.' That's good to know that they know what to do, they have a lot of experience. They're always helping us, whether it's an adjust- ment in practice or if we need a call, they help us align." Holt said he thinks the defense, not just the linebackers, has em- braced his aggressive style. "I see flashes of us really showing up in that cat- egory," he said late in camp. "That's going to be an ongoing process." Starting defensive tackles Wilson and Gelen Robin- son, especially, fit the attitude Holt wants his players to showcase: Ferocity and unrelenting pressure. The pair impressed throughout camp with an ability to consistently get into the backfield, as well as clog up the middle against the run. Wilson said that DT combination could be "some- thing serious" and anchor what could be a consider- able front seven, at least the first unit. "You've got two guys just ready to run and hit ev- erything moving," Wilson said. "A lot of experience between us two. We both played as freshmen, so we know the game. We know what the Big Ten feels like. Year 3 for me, Year 4 for him, let's go out and smack some heads. You feel me?" Brohm does, consistently saying the defense was ahead of the offense in camp. "I've liked our defense from Day 1," Brohm said at the end of camp. "I think we have very good football players at some key positions. The front seven did a good job and when they're doing well, it makes the back end better. "I think our first-team defense, if we keep them healthy, can be a solid group. And I think they're going to have to carry the load." A work in progress Perhaps because Brohm calls the plays on offense, his standard for that group is unrealistically high.
