Keiwan Jones 50 6-2, 280, Jr. Markus Bailey is probably best-suited to be an inside linebacker, where he can use his quickness to dart through traffic to make tackles — in high volume — near the line of scrimmage. It just so happens, though, that Bailey is also Purdue's best on the strong side, because he's athletic, can cover and is smart. The move, and the one to put Danny Ezechukwu at the hybrid Leo position, allows the Boilermakers to get all four of their linebackers on the field together, a necessity if the defense is to take a step forward. Look for Bailey to stay on the field in nickel, likely shifting back over to his inside 'backer position. Nose Tackle 1. Eddy Wilson 18 6-4, 295, Jr. 2. Lorenzo Neal 9 6-2, 325, So. Strong Safety 1. Garrett Hudson 16 6-2, 245, Sr. (5) Tom Campbell A graduate transfer, Shane Evans didn't have much time to acclimate himself to his new surroundings. After Kirk Barron was injured during walk-through before practice No. 1, Evans had to take the first- team snaps at center. It was quite the crash course. But Evans was happy for it, feeling like it forced him into speeding up his learning curve, getting into the playbook more and getting more comfortable. It's probably a reason why Purdue wanted to keep him in the starting unit once Barron returned, and the Boilermakers did so by sliding him over to left guard. He gives Purdue a little more athleticism there, considering the Boilermakers want to get their guards on the move occasionally.
