GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 28, ISSUE 1 42 of Florida, Indianapolis' Branson Deen, Alabama's K.J. Stokes and Illinois' Jack Sullivan all as de- fensive end or stand-up hybrid prospects. Some of them — Deen, Stokes and Sullivan notably — do seem to possess growth capacity enough to grown into interior line- men, where currently Fort Wayne's Lawrence Johnson is Purdue's lone D-tackle commitment. Ohio's Jack Cravaack was re- cruited for either defensive line or tight end, so the possibility exists that he too could join this robust group of defensive linemen once this class enrolls. Indianapolis area prospect Mad- ison Norris will remain a Purdue priority moving forward as well. He has the Boilermakers on a list that also includes Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee and others. Linebacker remains an import- ant need, as Purdue will look to sign more to go along with Chi- cagoland's Jaylan Alexander, the player who started the commit- ment spree in early June. Purdue was the runner-up on a pair of four-star Rivals.com pros- pects in Kentucky's Justice Dingle (Georgia Tech) and Ohio's Chase Kline (Michigan State), showing an ability to gain traction with some high-end defensive pros- pects when so much of Purdue's buzz since Brohm's hiring has centered around offense. Wide receiver is important, not just because of the short-term need present now, but because the players brought in in the hope they can remedy the need right away, they're all transfers with no more than two seasons of eligibility, so backfill has to be kept in mind. There will probably be additions to come, but as of now Purdue has Georgia's Jordan Bonner and Flor- ida's Cornelius McCoy lined up. Purdue's haul in the defensive backfield could be transformation- al. It's emphasized size, length and physical maturity in the secondary and found it in abundance in Chi- cago's Byron Perkins, Indy's Elijah Ball and Kentucky's Kadin Smith and Cory Trice.
