GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 28, ISSUE 1 7 Carsen Edwards' scoring average in international play this summer, through seven games with the U19 USA team and five games (three exhibitions) for Purdue/ Team USA at the World University Games. Running time for David Blough's speech at the Big Ten media luncheon July 25, during which the Purdue quarterback talked about football's importance in life. The speech was well-received, with many national football writers sharing their praise on social media. Dollars for admission to Folk Field for Purdue soccer games this season, not only for students (as it was last season) but the general public, as well. Fans can attend all 11 of Purdue's home games this season for free, including a six- game homestand to open the schedule. By The Numbers Zero 5:06 11 Will Purdue finish the season ranked higher in total offense or total defense in the Big Ten? Kyle Charters In any future season of the Jeff Brohm Era at Purdue, I'd be willing wager that the offense will rank higher in the Big Ten in yardage gained than the defense in yardage allowed. After all, Brohm's known for developing high-octane offenses that put up tons of yards and points. But Year 1? There are just too many questions about this offense to feel like it'll be able to move the ball with consistency. Ideally, Purdue wanted its newcomers at WR to jump into big-time roles. Hasn't happened. And the offensive line needs to perform better than "average," as Brohm described it during camp. The starting quarterback has an injured throwing shoulder. I'll take the veteran defense, with a scheme that'll take advantage of the Boilermakers' strengths, to lead Purdue in 2017. Stacy Clardie Entering a season with a shoulder injury at QB is never a good place to start for an offense, even if David Blough could be 100-percent by Week 1. And the receivers and offensive line surely could have had better camps. But, hey, Jeff Brohm also didn't scheme in practices like he will in games, when the offense will induce missed assignments from defenses with eye-candy motion and misdirection and confound them with trick plays. Brohm will utilize the handful of playmakers Purdue has in a variety of ways — putting RB Markell Jones in the slot, for one, and bouncing potential matchup nightmare Brycen Hopkins wide, for another — to rack up yards that could be top-half of the league. Whether the points will come at such a rate remains to be seen. But it'd be surprising if Brohm's no-huddle offense doesn't at least move the ball.
