46 THE WOLVERINE OCTOBER 2017   FOOTBALL RECRUITING saw them on a visit this summer, so I figured they'd be switching it up soon." Naples (Fla.) High 2018 three-star cornerback commitment Sammy Faustin: "I thought the uniforms were lit. Always cool to try something new. The defense was on point! If they didn't get two pick-sixes, Florida would've only had three points. The offense really bounced back after that." Orange (Calif.) Lutheran 2019 four- star wide receiver target Kyle Ford: "I loved the jerseys; those were wild. I mostly noticed the way they passed the ball and how they bounced back after adversity." DeSoto (Texas) High 2018 three-star safety commitment German Green: "The uniforms were amazing! I was there with the fans and took pictures with them. The team played great, and I can't wait to play with them." Traverse City (Mich.) West 2018 three-star offensive tackle commit- ment Ryan Hayes: "The jerseys are awesome." Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha 2019 four-star wide receiver target De- Marcco Hellams: "I thought the uni- forms were nice. I know I lot about Michigan is tradition, but I think it's a good thing sometimes to have fun with uniform possibilities and combi- nations. "I thought Michigan was fired up against Florida. They played like a team coming into their first game look- ing to prove to everyone that there isn't a rebuilding process with seniors gone but a reloaded team with young guys and guys with more playing time look- ing to step up. "That Michigan defense is very good. Graduating players didn't mean too much to those guys. They still came out and played hard-nosed football and proved themselves on the big stage." Louisville (Ky.) Trinity 2019 four- star weakside defensive end com- mitment Stephen Herron: "I liked the uniforms a lot! I just noticed that defense — the defense was a little unstable early, but they were able to bounce back and take control. I think the offense's efficiency was very good as well." Dearborn (Mich.) Divine Child 2018 four-star strongside defensive end commitment Aidan Hutchin- son: "I like the uniforms for the most part. They grew on me every time I saw them. I was interested to see the young guys play and how they reacted to adversity." Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian 2019 five-star strongside de- fensive end commitment Christopher Hinton: "They have a great defense. It just seems like a team full of competi- tors who will never quit." Anaheim (Calif.) Servite 2018 four- star safety target Julius Irvin: "I loved their will to fight. Their defense played well against a good Florida team." West Lafayette (Ind.) High 2019 four-star strongside defensive end target George Karlaftis: "The jerseys were dope!" Crystal Lake (Ill.) High 2019 four- star offensive tackle target Trevor Keegan: "I really liked the jerseys. They were different, which is neat since Michigan always has the same uniforms every year. It's cool that they changed it up a bit." Highlands Ranch (Colo.) Valor Christian 2019 four-star athlete target Luke McCaffrey: "The uniforms are crazy! I love those!" Indianapolis Lawrence Central 2018 four-star outside linebacker com- mitment Cameron McGrone: "The 'Maize Out' jerseys are sick! I always love some change. The defense played lights out. The only touchdowns that were scored were by Florida's defense. "The offense didn't give up either. Even after the back-to-back picks, they kept coming hard and making big plays. Great game." Orlando (Fla.) Olympia 2018 four- star dual-threat quarterback commit- ment Joe Milton: "The things that stuck out to me were how they fought hard and how the freshmen stepped up." Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point 2018 four-star tight end target Mus- tapha Muhammad: "The jerseys were live. They weren't too much like Or- egon, but not too little like Penn State. I like how Coach Harbaugh is always innovative and wants to try something new. "I was there, and it was super excit- ing. The fans were awesome. Seeing the tight ends touch the ball was awe- some, too." Tampa (Fla.) Plant 2019 four-star of- fensive guard target Will Putnam: "I think the new uniforms are pretty cool. They are something different. I saw them when I was on my visit." Akron (Ohio) Hoban 2019 four-star offensive guard commitment Nolan Rumler: "The jerseys were different. I think they looked cool on TV. I thought we saw Michigan's athleticism and speed against Florida. "There's so much talent on the team. It definitely didn't look like they lost 10 starters from the defensive side." Hamden (Conn.) Hall Country Day School 2018 three-star tight end com- mitment Luke Schoonmaker: "I loved the new 'Maize Out' jerseys!" Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas 2019 four-star inside line- backer target Anthony Solomon: "The all-maize is sick in my opinion. I love it!" Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian 2019 five-star weak- side defensive end target Kayvon Thibodeaux: "The uniforms were su- per dope and a nice change." Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy 2019 three-star outside linebacker commitment Charles Thomas: "Those jerseys are fire. I like the bright colors, the way they fit and how they are dif- ferent. It mixes the new school with the old school." Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage 2019 three-star inside linebacker target Drake Thomas: "The new jerseys were sweet. I actually got to see them on my visit in the spring, but they asked me not to take any pictures." Buford (Ga.) High 2018 three-star running back commitment Christian Turner: "I loved the jerseys. It's differ- ent. I liked how they spread the ball between the backs, and I also loved the energy the team brought to the field early." Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett 2019 three-star cornerback target DJ Turner II: "I really liked the new uni- forms. I liked the color of them and how they were all maize." Harbaugh wanted to pay homage to teams of the past and the overall his- tory of the university with the uniform. "This is the 200-year anniversary of the school. There was that pitch there with the school color of maize," he ex- plained before the game against Flor- ida. "It seemed like a good idea, and we'll find out on Saturday if it was the right way to go or not." Obviously, it was the right way to go — on the field and on the recruiting trail. ❏
