The Great Candy Cane Off-Road Race Team Offers Cash At SCORE Baja 1000 For the 2017 50th Anniversary of the SCORE Baja 1000, the Great Candy Cane Off-Road race team will offer a $1000 cash prize to the official last place finisher of the race and be presented by the Checkers Off-Road Race team. Walter Prince and The Great Candy Cane Off-Road Race Team has given out candy canes to make the race a little “sweeter” for spectators. The team believes in finishing, and in its continuation from the 2016 SCORE Baja 1000, is again offering this cash price to the last place finisher no matter what class they are in. VW Classes Prepare For ART SAVEDRA MEMORIAL SHOOTOUT During the Tijuana 21st SCORE Desert Challenge, VW Classes (Class 5-1600 and Class 11) will hold the Art Savedra Memorial Shootout in memory of SCORE’s Tech Director. These classes will run both halves of their race on September 22nd, with a time-out between their sessions. A special trophy and bonus purse for this special part of the race will be awarded. SCORE Creates New Baja e Class For Team ACCIONA Thanks to the creation of an EV Class by SCORE International, team ACCIONA is ready to participate at the 2017 SCORE Tijuana Desert Challenge race. ACCIONA, a leading supplier of sustainable infrastructure solutions and renewable energy projects worldwide, and for the first time, is entering a zero-emissions car, the ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered vehicle. The car is powered by a 250 kW synchronous electric motor that is equivalent to a 340 horsepower engine, but does not use any fossil fuel. The car use eight ultra-fast charging lithium battery modules (60 minutes) and a 100 W solar panel. The team’s two drivers, Andrea Peterhansel and Emma Clair, have extensive careers in off-road racing and recently competed in the Dakar Rally and the Italian Baja in the ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered vehicle. Their involvement in the SCORE Tijuana Desert Challenge is part of ACCIONA’s continued focus on demonstrating the potential of renewable energy and on lending visibility to the fight against climate change. The Safari class is open to any vehicle not normally associated with off-road racing, and includes four-wheel drive cars, trucks and buggies of any make, model or configuration.
