EDITORS NOTE: 10 • RV PRO • October 2017 rv-pro.com I t's been truly heartbreaking to see the devastation caused after Hurricane Harvey struck Texas and Hurricane Irma struck Florida. In addition to the tragic loss of life, the damage to homes and businesses will run into the billions of dollars and it will take months for life to return to normal in impacted communities. Fortunately, in times of tragedy Americans come together to selflessly help their fellow citizens. And to its great credit, the RV industry seems to be at the forefront of this kind of charitable giving. I was reminded of this as news came across my desk of one business after another stepping up to pledge their support. Of course, these companies didn't give for the purpose of being recognized, but I believe their efforts are worthy of acknowledgement, which is why I'm sharing their good deeds here. • Lippert Components hosted a Hurricane Harvey disaster relief donation drive. The company provided collection points at several Lippert plants where local communities could provide aid for Houston evacuees. • Campers Inn collaborated with Pelham, N.H., High School to deliver supplies to people affected by Hurricane Harvey. The dealership's store in Merrimack, N.H., donated a travel trailer used to haul supplies to needy recipients in Houston. • Camping World has pledged to raise $4 million for ongoing hurricane relief efforts. • K-Z RV spearheaded hurricane relief efforts by having its facilities in Shipshewana, Ind., serve as a staging area for the local community, collecting donations to aid with recovery efforts. The RV maker and its employees, in turn, purchased goods to top off the trucks that delivered donations to several charities in Texas and Florida. • Some 34 Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO) parks welcomed Hurricane Harvey evacuees as the storm approached. • Separately, the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds Foundation created a disaster relief fund aimed at helping RV parks in South Texas and Louisiana that were severely damaged by Hurricane Harvey. • Covercraft Industries has pledged to match contributions to the American Red Cross up to $10,000 for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. • The RV Dealers Association and the Texas RV Association are working with RV Disaster Corps to help find volunteers for Texas and Florida recovery efforts. Separately, RVDA is acting as a clearinghouse for information on how its members can donate to relief organizations like the Red Cross, and how hurricane-impacted dealers and their employees can seek assistance from federal government agencies. These RV businesses and organizations are just the ones I know of; I have no doubt that many more industry professionals and companies have generously donated their money, resources and time to help those in need.
