Special coverage – DuSSelDorf caravan Salon U.S. Exhibitors Pleased with Show This year was SylvanSport's second to display its Sylvan- Sport Go product at the Caravan Salon, but its first to offer its lightweight trailers for sale. Company President Tom Dempsey said the company "achieved its sales goal and more." "This product was really designed to appeal to the way Euro- pean campers enjoy their time off and so we knew it would find success there, based upon its light weight and fast set-up/ take- down time. That's why we go there, because it's a great market for us really, Germany and the expanded EU as well," he said. While there were plenty of European RV makers exhibiting lightweight towables at the Caravan Salon, Dempsey said there's nothing that compares to the SylvanSport Go, which he said was specifically designed to engineer out negatives often associated with pop-up-style trailers. "I really found no similar products in the European market," he said. "So, for the customer who appreciates the quality expe- rience, they get it, and there are certainly quite a few of them that bought the Go this year. Meanwhile, American suppliers also reported being pleased with the traffic they received at the show. "The show went well for us," said Piar Adams, vice president of sales, RV appliances, for Airxcel. "Overall, we saw a lot more of our trade customers than last year. Each year more and more come from international markets from Europe, Australia, New Zealand and from all over Asia. Retail traffic felt heavy as well." Adams said Airxcel's MaxxFan Deluxe got a lot of attention from both trade and retail customers, and that Airxcel had a lot of interest in its cooking products and skylights. Polyplastic showcased several of its lightweight plastic windows for show attendees. The company says its products are 40 percent lighter than glass and even more durable.
